After finishing high-school (Johanneum, Lübeck) in October 1976 I studied graphic-design at the art school Alsterdamm in Hamburg until August 1980. At the same time I specialized in creative painting with Lothar Walter. 1980 through 1989 I worked as a graphic designer and art director in several advertising agencies in Stuttgart and Hamburg, e.g. at McCann-Erickson, Copartner Ayer, and others. In 1989 I became CEO at Krabiell & Liedtke, advertising agency in Hamburg, and have been working there ever since.

Being a graphic designer, my painting is influenced by advertisement illustrations as well as lifelike and simplistic settings. Therefore my painting is largely modelled on realists in the broadest sense: among the most important are the painter and illustrator Norman Rockwell, Edward Hopper, the realist photographer Richard Estes and Ralph Going, as well as the old school artists of Dutch painting. My preferred techniques are oil and acrylic.
